“Capital of Gozo and centre of everything. It-Tokk market square, cafes, bakeries and the Citadel on the hill. How to know the city, not just see it.”
Victoria is the geographical and spiritual centre of Gozo. All roads lead here — literally, since every bus on Gozo starts from Victoria Bus Station. Locals still call it Rabat (the old name), while "Victoria" is a British imposition from 1887, named after the Queen.
Victoria's central square (It-Tokk) is the heart of the city. In the morning — a market with vegetables, local Ġbejna cheese and Maltese sausage. At noon — cafes and fathers reading newspapers. In the evening — locals out for a walk and an aperitif. This is life, not a tourist attraction.
From the square you can see it above you — the Citadel on the hill. Entry to the walls is free. The panorama of all Gozo from the top is an absolute must. Detailed guide in a separate article.
