Pastizzi cost 50–60 cents. When the price jumped from 30 cents to 50, it triggered a national storm. This is not just a snack — it is the dietary staple of students, workers and taxi drivers. Pastizzerie (pastizzi bakeries) open at dawn and stay open late, and the queue outside at 7 am tells you everything.
