What is a farmhouse

A farmhouse (in Maltese: tal-biedja) is a traditional stone house on Gozo, often with an internal courtyard and a private pool. Built from local limestone, the thick walls keep the heat out in summer and the cold out in winter. Most have a private pool, terrace, kitchen and 2–4 bedrooms.

Why a farmhouse rather than a hotel?

Prices and seasons

Low season (October–April): from €100–150/night for the whole house (4-person)
High season (June–September): €200–350/night
Weeks vs weekends: long stays (7+ nights) = significantly better price

For 4 people: approximately €37–88/person/night — cheaper than or comparable to a hotel, but with a private pool.

What to expect in a farmhouse

Usually included: private pool, terrace, fully equipped kitchen (cooking Maltese food is part of the experience), 2–4 bedrooms, air conditioning, outdoor BBQ, Wi-Fi.

Not included: no reception, no entertainment programme, no room service. You have the keys and the house is yours.

Best locations

Victoria (Rabat) — Gozo's centre, close to restaurants and shops
Xlendi and Marsalforn — by the bay, a short walk to the sea
Rural Gozo (Xaghra, Gharb, Kercem) — absolute silence and views over agricultural terraces

This is not a hotel option — it's an experience. If there are more than 3 of you, a farmhouse is cheaper than a hotel and 100× more memorable.
